Compare the Shogun Warriors Dragun 3rd Version with other vintage robot figures. Learn about its unique features, condition considerations, and who it's best for.
Quick answer
The Shogun Warriors Dragun 3rd Version is a rare 1976 Mattel figure with a 22.5-inch scale and high market value, but its heavy box damage and pre-owned condition make it best for display-oriented collectors rather than those seeking mint-in-box specimens.
Why the 3rd Version Matters
The Shogun Warriors Dragun 3rd Version stands out because it represents a specific production run from 1976, a key year for the brand. Its 22.5-inch height makes it one of the larger figures in the series, giving it a commanding presence on any shelf. However, the catalog notes heavy box damage and pre-owned status, so condition is a major factor.
Condition and Value Trade-Offs
While the catalog price is $659.99 (compared to $999.99), the market price is listed at $2,599.99, reflecting its rarity. The trade-off is clear: you get a lower entry cost due to box damage, but you sacrifice the pristine packaging that serious collectors often seek. The figure itself is fully sealed, which is a plus, but the box damage may affect long-term investment value.
Trade-Offs at a Glance
- Shogun Warriors Dragun 3rd Version: A 1976 Mattel figure, 22.5 inches tall, fully sealed but with heavy box damage and pre-owned status. Catalog price $659.99, market value $2,599.99. Best for collectors who prioritize the figure itself over mint packaging.
- Typical Vintage Robot Figure (e.g., 1980s Bandai or Popy): Often smaller (6-12 inches), with varying condition and lower market values. May come with original box in better shape. Better for budget-conscious collectors or those seeking complete packaging.
- Modern Reissue or Reproduction: Newer figures with updated materials, no age-related wear, and consistent packaging. Prices are usually lower than rare originals. Ideal for play or display without condition concerns.
